Inspiration: Slice of Bright

My go-to morning inspiration usually revolves around coffee (see: Morning Coffee) but today I wanted to go a different route.

After browsing my Color make me go OH! board on Pinterest, I decided I wanted to start the morning off with an overall feeling of brightness with pops of refreshing color. That's when I rediscovered this Design Seeds palette I had pinned a while back. It's the perfect visual representation of how I'm feeling!

So, I wanted to find a picture that would pair with each color block. Still utterly obsessed with Pinterest, I switched to my (favorite) #hgtv board and found five pictures that, in my opinion, pair well with my goal.

It isn't a coffee post but maybe it will still inspire!

Those. Chairs. #want [pin]

That island is fantastic. [pin]
That room is ALSO fantastic. [pin]

I'm digging that mirror. [pin]
And that light. [pin]

What pins are inspiring you?

What does your patio say about you?

We love to decorate our homes. There’s no two ways about it. Indoor decor is a must while outdoor decor is just plain fun. Some could argue that while a person actually lives inside of a house that the furniture and style that fills it is more important. However, don’t you also spend time outside?

Even though you may spend the majority of your time inside, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t dress the outside as well! With a plethora of styles created to accommodate any patio space it’s important to find a style that is uniquely you.

Here are four patio designs and what they say about their owners.

The Elegant Host
When there’s a dinner party to be had, you’re the person everyone turns to. With this stainless steel patio furniture elegance from Cabana Coast, you have turned your outdoor eatery into a modern, contemporary, design made to show everyone you’re a classy host. With its stainless steel and matching wicker, this set can look sleek on its own or be dressed up even more with tabletop accents. If your patio design holds this set, you can rest easy knowing that your smart, elegant tastes have finally been realized.

The Modern Grey Entertainer
This patio scene from West Elm just screams, “We like to entertain!” Showcasing Tillary outdoor modular seating, this set can be separated then rearranged to meet your liking while maintaining a smooth, modern look. Are you having a pool party and want to be able to lounge alongside the swimmers? Move one of the sofas closer. Do you want an intimate seating area to spend time with loved ones and friends after a long day of work? Move it back with the rest of the arrangement. The pops of color keep the eyes appreciating this set while the designer pillows only attribute to the overall cool feeling. This design shows visitors that you aren’t afraid to entertain and look good while doing it.

The Designers
Not only do you like to entertain, you like to “Wow!” This patio scene has a Wayfair 11-piece round sectional that is stylish and sleek with a glass-topped coffee table able to withstand the elements. When your visitors step out and see this combo they’ll know you appreciate good design and know the right ways to inspire awe. You won’t mind their assumptions because you like the praise after spending a good amount of time searching for the right “wow” factor to complete your patio design.

The Eclectic Outdoorsman
You love color. You love contrast. You love being outside. This Banyan Bay patio set from Pier 1 Imports with its colorful accents and additions creates a patio design that shows you’re a lover of the outdoors who isn’t afraid of unique decorations. Your taste is eclectic and fun. This set has synthetic, hand-woven wicker that makes you feel closer to nature while allowing you comfort. You will be able to lounge day or night, cold weather or warm weather with this patio thanks to your love of eclectic design and flair for fun.

So, what does your patio say about you?

Inspiration: 2 Creative Blogs You SHOULD Be Following

I know, I've been doing a lot of Writer Talk, Reader Talk, and Interviews lately as opposed to the creative design/DIY/inspiration posts I used to do all of the time. It's not that I've given up on that side of things, I've just found that the writer and reader side of posts to be more relevant in my life right now.

Holli and I are writing books that we hope to will finish in July. (Largely in part to Camp NaNoWriMo we plan to participate in.) This means my brain has been a little more inclined to think about things like writing resources, Dos & Donts, POVshumorous writer musings, and, of course, book things.

So, to show you that I still very much love everything design + inspiration, I wanted to share with you two of my favorite creative blogs that you SHOULD already be following.

Honestly, ABM is one of the sites I visit during my daily online routine. I can't put my finger on the exact way I came to know about this lovely blog, but I've been glued to it for more than a year.

ABM is lifestyle blog run by sisters Elsie and Emma. Their topics include Crafts, Photography, Recipes, Decor, Fashion, and Beauty. While I appreciate all of those creatively fueled categories, their crafty DIYs and Decor (specifically the At Home With series) posts are my bread and butter.

I love this site because, despite their obvious popularity, both sisters and the people that work with them seem to be humble and absolutely love what they do. If you ever need an inspirational boost or some creative juice, I suggest you roll on over to their site and spend some time enjoying everything they have to offer!

Their Home page's mini About: A beautiful mess is all about creative a beautiful life. We share daily inspirations, DIY projects and recipes. We believe that the best things in life are homemade.

Amen, sisters!

Oh, how I love me some Design Love Fest. Different in vibe from ABM, Design Love Fest still has all the goodness of a creative and inspirational design blog.

Bri Emery, founder and editor of DLF, has a knack for style, a flair for life, and is just adorable in general. In the past year the evolution of Blogshop has made DLF even more fun to follow as well as the my favorite reoccurring topics of Make It, Design, Interiors, and Advice.

The graphic designer part of me (as well as the freelancer side of me) is what loves Design Love Fest the most. If you work from home, are a designer, or just love pretty things in general I suggest you put Design Love Fest in your bookmarks!

DLF's tagline: Where type & images totally make out.

Inspiration: Dschwen

This weekend was busy for both of the Annes. I am finally winding down enough to catch up on the bloggy side of things, though sleepily. However, I wanted to take a moment to make a quick post about this INK361 recent find.

Dschwen has some of the most creative and inspiring pictures I've seen in a while.

Here are some of my favorites below but make sure to go here for more!

Hope your weekend was great!

Branding Myself

If you aren't aware of Betty Means Business then GET ON IT. I recently stumbled upon this site and can't get enough! Inspirational, motivational, creative, funny, and clever. These are all things that Betty Means Business brings to the table when you decide to take a gander at the site and content.

Yesterday's post (Experimenting with Brand Words) hit home with me visually and made me immediately want to experiment with brand words. However, instead of doing a board of brand words for Almost There I wanted to brand myself.

This was a fun, creative exercise that really made me think about who I was and how that matched up to Almost There!

You should definitely visit BMB and do your own experimenting with brand words!

All images were found on Pinterest (follow my boards here) and I certainly don't own them. Each one can be linked back to their original owner.

For You: What The Junk Sheet

Do you know what today is??????????????????? So many question marks!

Today is Galentine's Day! If you are a Parks and Rec fan and, of course, the amazing Leslie Knope then you know all about Galentine's Day!

So, to celebrate this wonderful day of gal pals and awesomeness I created something that I believe a lot of us need!

What The Junk Is My Password sheet is an attempt to keep all of our info. in one place so scatterbrains like me can actually remember our usernames and passwords. Click on the image below, save, and print! Just remember, don't leave this sheet just anywhere!

Happy Galentine's Day!

So, I wanted to share with you some these compliment cards I designed for you to download/print/place around the house for your special someone(s). They are goofy but that's just how I like my love!

Efficient Desktop Background (Freebie!)

I work almost solely on my computer. ONE computer to be specific. So before I know it, my desktop transforms into my college dorm floor--cluttered & chaotic. I don't know how many times I've told myself that I will not just drag, drop, and forget about the many pictures I find online and I will not just save all of my files to my desktop.
But then a few days go by and my desktop is crazy cluttered and I become very lazy about organizing it.
So, today I made myself get my stuff together and design a desktop background that would help keep me a bit more organized.

I wanted it to be simple because I get distracted pretty easily. I also wanted it to have color but more on the subdued side. For inspiration I pulled up my Pinterest (okay, who am I trying to fool...Pinterest was already up) and the first picture I saw I just fell in love with.

This picture's colors were just what I wanted and meshed well with the handwritten feel I love.

So, I made four color blocks and labeled them as Work, Play, Life, and Random. Because, really, that's what I have going on!

Then I took my crazy desktop and put each file in their respective blocks!

It may not look like a lot but it does help me! If you want to use this background, just click on the picture below and save it to your computer! Then make it your desktop!

Enjoy!

Christmas Craze: Coaster Craze

Christmas Craze? More like Coaster Craze! See, I've been kind of addicted to making drink coasters lately. It's not that I drink an abnormal amount and need extra coasters around the house, I just WANT tons of them all different!

So I figured if I want them so badly, then maybe other people will too! So here's Christmas Craze Day 7! (Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6)

This Christmas Craze DIY is all about designing & making coasters as a personal, awesome, inexpensive gift for Christmas!

If you know me then you probably have picked up on the fact that I'm semi-obsessed with Design Love Fest. I check it everyday and often am absolutely inspired by the creativity of it. So when I read Make It / 25 I instantly fell in love and knew I HAD to do it. All credit for this idea definitely goes to them!

Now, to the Batcave everyone!

What you'll need:

  • A design for your coasters! Mine can be found below. You can simple click it and save it to your desktop then print.
  • Access to a printer! Make sure you have enough ink!
  • Cork coasters! I got mine from Hobby Lobby. $2.77 for 6.
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • Spongey brush
  • Photo paper! I got soft gloss photo paper from Target. Letter size to make it easier.
  • Scissors
  • Tacky Glue
  • Felt

What I did first was come up with a fun color scheme and font. Since I have recently found M3 Design and this lovely post with a lovely font, I used the Ostrich Sans font family! Then the colors from this pin! (I used Adobe Illustrator to make my design. If you have that and aren't sure how to use it, leave a comment and I'll make another post about how to do it! I would do it now but I need to pack up the apartment something fierce!)

Once you have your design, print it out onto your photo paper! Then with scissors (or X-acto knife if you can cut circles like a pro...I really can't!) cut out your designs. Now, I created and printed my design out then put my printer into a box BEFORE I actually bought my coasters. I downloaded Design Love Fest's pretty designs (again, go here to see) and was using those sizes as a template. However, the coasters I got from Hobby Lobby are a tad bigger BUT it's an easy fix!

Take your mod page and, using your spongey brush, cover the coaster thoroughly. Then take your design and place it onto the coaster. Make sure to get the bubbles out by running your finger over the design. Then put it under a book while it dries. Do the same to the rest of your coasters and designs!

After they are dry, put a coat of mod podge over the design. I did three coats each.

Now, if you are using the coasters from Hobby Lobby that are a tad too big, just take your scissors and cut off the excess cork. It cuts really easy unlike its brother, the cork squares!

If you don't want the bottom to be cork (I LOVE CORK) take your felt and use tacky glue to glue it to the bottom of each coaster!

I hope you enjoyed this DIY! Once I'm unpacked in my NEW place (hopefully tomorrow!) I'm going to set up my studio and be able to make another round!

Color Love

A few years back I had a set color palatte (all blues) that I only wanted to decorate with and that was it. You couldn't sway me to branch out. After getting my design degree though, I've gone from color-closed-minded to I LOVE EVERYTHING!

After finding Redesign Revolution's Pinterest, I got weak in the knees over four different rooms with four different color schemes!

Enjoy!
