Inspiration: Battling Distraction

Lately life has been a little bit…distracting.

Two rooms in our house are still only half-way painted, my future office is storing all the things we haven't unpacked and I  haven't written on my book in weeks.

This, plus balancing the wonderful distraction that is newlywed life and work…well, it's just plain hard to focus.

Last Friday, this kind of all came to a head for me in the form of a really fun wave of anxiety.

My strategy when things are just too burdensome? Walk away.

Not forever, of course, just for the afternoon. Since my lack of office and crazy house were a big point of stress for me, I decided to paint something for my future office. (That, and I know where the paint is located in my home!)

This little painting was particularly fitting for me during my dry spell of writing: Write Something.

Since almost all of my work involves writing, I wanted this little reminder above me while I work, so I can close the Pinterest browser more often and just focus on writing.

I've also really been researching for my book I'm writing, which is great, except that I haven't been writing at all on it.
Just taking the time to paint this while indulging in some shameless crime show watching was the perfect stress relief.

Hopefully, it will soon find it's new home in my proper office, but for now, this little space will have to do.

Anyone have any fun things they use to keep focused? I'd love to hear!

Office Redo Update!

What's the opposite of progress? Regress? Whatever it may be, my tackling of the office CCD (reference) and basic office redo looks like I've taken five steps backwards rather than any steps forward. However, I have an odd organization process that makes everything look a lot worse than it actually is, so it's fine!

I work from home, for those who aren't aware, and also live in the tiniest apartment. These two facts together can be frustrating beyond belief. The second bedroom acts as my office, my library and the guest bedroom. This is why my workspace has been pushed into the corner and many things (including my books that refuse to fit into the bookcase) have been stacked and crammed into plastic containers.

This. Is. A. Problem.

If I have to, I can work and be creative without a working workspace. BUT it doesn't make sense not to love or use your workspace!

Here's my corner of doom before I did anything. (The horror, THE HORROR!)

Originally I drew this. A few things have changed but this is basically what I am going to do!
(I never said I could draw!)

Next I decided it was time to de-clutter, something a pack rat finds almost impossible! So what did I do? I put everything in the middle of the room!

Since this picture was taken I have put up shelves and reduced my clutter by half. However, I am still trudging through the rest.

So why did I even put up this post of shameful pictures of my (now) very messy office?

I want you to take the time to go through your clutter and get rid of the things you don't need! Fellow pack rats, keeping random things through the years isn't worth the hassle later when you need to redo a room or move!

Trust me!
